Dr. Annie Andrews – Questions for the 2022 Democrat Candidate to Represent the 1st Congressional District of South Carolina

She believes “climate change” is real, it’s human-made, and the “science is settled”.  She says she supports the Second Amendment while calling for it to be infringed upon. She avoids the word “abortion” on her campaign website, and goes with gentler phrases like “reproductive rights” and “reproductive decisions”. She thinks election laws that require voters to present an approved photo I.D. are “rolling back voting rights”. She’s Dr. Annie Andrews.  She’s running to represent the 1st Congressional District of South Carolina.  Here are some questions.

1) There is no information on the Andrews for Congress website about your life prior to college.  Was this an oversight, or was it done intentionally? If intentional, for what purpose?

  • Where were you born (city / state)?
  • Did your family relocate during your childhood?
    • If yes, please list the different locations you lived prior to college.
  • What is the name of the high school you attended?

2) Were you raised by both your biological father and mother?

  • Did either, or both of your parents work outside of the home?
  • What were their occupations (1980 – 2000)?

3) How would you best describe your family’s economic class during your high school years?

  • Poor or near-poor
  • Lower-middle class
  • Middle class
  • Upper-middle class
  • Rich

4) Scientists have been making bold predictions about the climate for decades.  The “target” is constantly moving and changing.  You have said, “Climate change is real and it is human-made. The science is settled”.

  • How do you define climate change?
  • When you say that climate change is “human-made”, do you mean all of it?
  • Considering the history of climate prediction and speculation, how are you so confident that the “science is settled”?

5) Do you oppose having to present photo identification in order to vote in South Carolina, and if so, why?

6) You speak of strengthening “the public’s faith in our elections”.  How is this possible when candidates, from both parties, accuse the other side of cheating?  Hillary Clinton, Stacey Abrams, and Donald Trump all come to mind.

7) You have expressed your support for term limits.  Most candidates for public office say they support such measures. The public has been calling for term limits for decades.  Unfortunately, to get such a bill to the House floor requires the very people who would be forced off the ballot, to allow the bill to come up for a vote.  This has proven to be a non-starter.  But what about “old age limits”?  The United States requires a minimum age of twenty-five to be elected to the House of Representatives, thirty to be elected to the Senate, and thirty-five to be elected President of the United States.

  • Would you support a maximum age limit to address the issue of “career politicians”?
  • What if when a candidate is seventy-two years old, or older, on election day, he or she would be ineligible to run for office? Would you support a bill placing “senior” age restrictions on politicians?

8) You speak of defending the reproductive decisions of women.  On your campaign website you avoid the word abortion. It’s assumed you include having an abortion as one of the many reproductive decisions for women to make.

  • Are there any abortion limitations that you support?
  • Assuming the health of the mother and fetus is sound, and the pregnancy is not the result of rape or incest, is there a stage (week) in the pregnancy that you say is too late to have an abortion?

9) Should gender affirmation surgery be available to minors? Today, a person must be at least eighteen years old to have this surgery, but many people are pushing to make it available to younger people. Do you support this surgery being available to a person under the age of eighteen?

10) You say you support the Second Amendment.  How so?

  • If a resident of the 1st Congressional District of South Carolina needs a permit to bear arms, doesn’t this requirement nullify his or her right to bear arms?
  • You have indicated that you support the “Assault Weapon Ban” bill, H.R. 1808 that recently passed in the House of Representatives.  You also condemn Congresswoman Nancy Mace for voting against the measure.  Have you read H.R. 1808?
  • H.R. 1808 grandfather’s in over 50 million + “assault” weapons already owned by Americans. The most popular semi-automatic handguns are not subject to the ban.  The list of rifles, many high powered, some semi-automatic, that are also not subject to this ban is 96 pages long!  The entire bill is only 128 pages.  Given these facts, would you describe how a vote in favor of this bill is going to make children, or any other person, safer?
  • What, if anything, would you change about H.R. 1808?

11) Your positions on a balanced budget amendment, a ban on members of Congress trading stocks, and a lifetime ban on members of Congress becoming lobbyists are admirable, and arguably conservative. If elected, will Dr. Annie Andrews be willing, and able, to stand alone against her own party if necessary, and stand firm on her conviction?

If Dr. Annie Andrews answers any of these questions, I will be certain to incorporate her responses into this questionnaire.
