South Carolina’s Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Annie Andrews has built her public image around being a pediatrician, mother, and advocate for children. Throughout her 2022 congressional campaign and her current Senate campaign, her biographies have consistently described her family life in terms of her marriage to fellow physician Charlie Andrews and their three children.
However, public records appear to tell a more complete story.
An Indiana Marriage Record
A certified Record of Marriage from Hamilton County, Indiana, dated December 27, 2003, identifies the bride as Anne E. Lintzenich, age 23, of Fishers, Indiana. Her parents are listed as James Lintzenich and Mary Manion, and her birthplace is listed as Kentucky.
The groom is identified as Casey E. Malone.
The marriage record states that both parties had never previously been married.
These details closely match publicly available biographical information about Dr. Annie Andrews, whose birth name is Anne (or Annie) Lintzenich. Public biographies identify her as being born in Kentucky, raised in Indiana, and having the maiden name Lintzenich.
A Later Marriage Is Publicly Known
Public biographies state that Annie Andrews married neurologist Dr. Charlie Andrews in 2011. Campaign biographies have routinely referred to Charlie Andrews as her husband and mention their three children.
In addition, South Carolina court records show that Anne Lintzenich Andrews filed for divorce from Charles Martin Andrews in August 2023. The case concluded in March 2024, although the underlying case file is sealed.
The court docket itself does not describe the issues involved in the divorce, but it confirms that the marriage legally ended.
The Missing Chapter
What makes the Indiana marriage record noteworthy is not necessarily that it exists.
Rather, it is that no public campaign biography reviewed for this article, including Annie Andrews’ 2022 congressional campaign, her current Senate campaign, and widely used candidate profiles, mentions an earlier marriage to Casey Malone.
That omission does not by itself establish that anything improper occurred. Political candidates are generally free to decide how much of their personal history to include in campaign biographies.
Nevertheless, voters often expect candidates for high office to present a complete and accurate account of their personal background, particularly when family life is featured prominently in campaign messaging.
What the Evidence Suggests
Based on the publicly available records reviewed:
- An “Anne E. Lintzenich” matching Annie Andrews’ publicly known background married Casey E. Malone in Indiana in 2003.
- Public biographies state that Anne Lintzenich later married Charlie Andrews in 2011.
- South Carolina court records show that Anne Lintzenich Andrews divorced Charles Martin Andrews in 2024.
Taken together, these records suggest that Annie Andrews may have been married twice and divorced twice.
At the same time, one important point should be emphasized: while the records are consistent with that conclusion, I have not located a public statement by Annie Andrews confirming that the Anne E. Lintzenich named in the 2003 Indiana marriage record is the same person now known publicly as Dr. Annie Andrews. I requested confirmation from the Andrews campaign but have yet to receive a response.
The available public records strongly suggest that connection, but readers should understand the distinction between documentary evidence and a verification that has been independently confirmed.
If Dr. Annie Andrews wishes to clarify or dispute any aspect of this article, I welcome her response and will publish it in full.
