Trans Politics a One-Way Street

The question surrounding whether “trans women” (individuals who are male but identify as female) should be permitted to compete in women’s sports has sparked significant controversy and conversation the last few years. This issue raises several important considerations regarding fairness and the very definition of gender in the context of athletics. It should not be this complicated. Self-described “Trans women” can try out for men’s sports teams. If they make the team, they can compete. If they fail to make the team, they can try again when the next opportunity comes around. Lots of athletes fail to make the cut. The notion that trans women must be allowed to compete against female athletes is wrongheaded and not fair play.

A related argument on whether these trans women (men) should be allowed access to women’s locker rooms and restrooms is taking place despite a clear backdrop of logic and common decency. We all remember the little boy in the movie Kindergarten Cop starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. “Boys have penises. Girls have vaginas.” These were simpler times. Penises do not belong in women’s locker rooms or women’s restrooms. Logic and morality cannot be discarded just so progressives can achieve the immoral and careless policy they desire.

As we navigate this contentious woke minefield, it becomes increasingly essential to remain steadfastly focused on the core principles of fairness, safety, and the integrity of women’s sports. These elements are paramount in ensuring that biological female athletes have an equal opportunity to compete and thrive in an environment that respects their rights, identities, and hard work.

Maintaining fairness means recognizing the importance of spirited competition, where opportunities are not only fair but also just, allowing every female athlete to showcase her abilities without the shadow of their opponents having an unfair advantage. The safety of female athletes cannot be sacrificed just so a man who says he’s a woman can dominate in competition. The welfare of female athletes must encompass not only physical well-being but also psychological well-being of the women participating.

In a country with so many problems to address, it is disheartening to find ourselves entrenched in such contentious and bizarre debates, questioning the basic principles of who belongs in women’s sports and restrooms. We must preserve fair competition and safe spaces for women. While the U.S. Congress is midstream debating these topics and various states are enacting laws that reflect a wide range of beliefs about gender identity and rights, the national debt is soaring. Wages are not keeping up with inflation. Military recruitment is down. Our borders are not secure. It is a travesty that transgenderism, (categorized as a mental illness only a few years ago) is such a distraction from what is important to most Americans. This dogmatic woke ideology must be defeated.

There is one inescapable fact that should not be ignored, a truth that reverberates throughout the ongoing debates surrounding gender identity and societal norms. The fight we are witnessing is, indeed, one-sided. We never hear lawmakers passionately defending the rights of women who identify as men to access and use men’s restrooms. There is a noticeable absence of individuals who identify as men but are women, lamenting the barriers they face when pursuing careers in physically demanding sports, such as being a linebacker in the NFL. There is not a single male athlete advocating for trans men to be barred from men’s sports. Why is that?

It’s simple for honest and thoughtful people. Trans men (females who say they are men) athletes do not have a physical, competitive advantage over male athletes and trans women (men who say they are women) athletes most often do have a physical, competitive advantage over female athletes. When it comes to restrooms and locker rooms, if a person has a penis, regardless of his gender identity, stop being so inconsiderate and stay out of spaces designated for women.

Last week House Republicans passed a bill to ban transgender athletes from girls’ sports. Now the Senate Republicans need to pass the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act and get it to President Trump’s desk for his signature.
